WHO announces the development of updated guidance on managing advanced HIV disease

6 December 2024

WHO has made available the membership of the Guidelines Development Group (GDG) for the development of WHO updated Guidelines for managing advanced HIV disease.

The group will meet virtually from 14 – 16 January 2025 to review evidence on the use of CD4 testing for identification of advanced HIV disease; interventions for people with advanced HIV disease who are discharged from hospital following an illness, and preferred treatment regimen for the management of individuals with Kaposi Sarcoma. This guidance will focus on individual and public health benefits.

Following WHO guidance for guideline development, the GDG will be composed of members from all WHO regions acting in their individual capacity (not representing any organization of which they are affiliated). The members of the GDG are not commissioned and do not receive any financial compensation. Members of the GDG for this guideline were chosen by WHO technical staff based on their relevant technical expertise, end-users (programme managers and health workers) and the members of the affected communities.

In line with WHO policy on conflict of interest, members of the public and interested organizations can access the biographies of the GDG members and inform WHO of their views about them. All comments should be sent by email to hiv-aids@who.int by 23 December 2024.
