Kenneth Lackner Scholarship

Ribbon Community will be awarding a Kenneth Lackner Scholarship of $2,500 in March 2026. This scholarship provides funding for education at a recognized, Canadian postsecondary education institution

Kenneth Lackner worked as a bookkeeping assistant when Ribbon Community was AIDS Vancouver. When he died in 2017, Kenneth generously gifted AIDS Vancouver funds for this scholarship. We are grateful to Kenneth for making this scholarship possible, and all his contributions.

This scholarship was initially administered by the LOUD Foundation. In 2023, AIDS Vancouver began administering the scholarship independently.

This scholarship provides funding for education at a recognized, Canadian postsecondary education institution. To receive the scholarship, individuals must be able to confirm one of the following:

  • Current enrollment in a recognized, Canadian postsecondary education institution
  • Studies completed at a recognized, Canadian postsecondary education institution between February 1, 2025 and March 1, 2026
  • A confirmed spot in a program at a recognized, Canadian postsecondary education institution with a start date between March 1, 2026 and September 30, 2026

This scholarship is open to people with a valid Social Insurance Number who are:

  • a Ribbon Community client and/or family member (HIV-positive and HIV-negative),
  • a Ribbon Community volunteer,
  • living with HIV [confirmation of status required] living in British Columbia

Scholarship recipients will only be confirmed once we receive documentation of the eligibility criteria above, as well as the information required to issue at T4A.
