Sep 18, 2020 - On September 14, 2020, Canada Post unveiled a set of five commemorative stamps celebrating six groundbreaking physicians and researchers, including BC-CfE Executive Director & Physician-in-Chief Dr. Julio Montaner. Joining Dr. Montaner are Drs. Bruce Chown, Balfour Mount, M. Vera Peters, James Till and Ernest McCulloch, whose contributions to the fields of pediatric pathology, HIV/AIDS, palliative care, oncology and stem cell science changed the practice of medicine in Canada and around the world.
Dr. Montaner was recognized for his role in the development of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART), which helps slow the progression of HIV, enabling those living with HIV to have a near-normal life expectancy, and Treatment as Prevention® which prevents the transmission of HIV through effective treatment. We at the BC-CfE are incredibly proud of the immense body of work Dr. Montaner has contributed to over the past decades, and thank Canada Post for recognizing these accomplishments in their #MedicalGroundbreakers stamp series!
