Medicine Hat Cares Centre Now Open
July 14, 2010 - AIDS Calgary is excited to announce the opening of the Medicine Hat Cares Centre. In early 2010, the primary provincial
funder for HIV programs in Alberta de-funded the existing Medicine Hat AIDS service organization. AIDS Calgary was asked to manage service delivery in the area.
After community consultation and planning, the Medicine Hat Cares Centre was born. The Centre will operate as a program of AIDS Calgary Awareness Association.
"It was so important to have community input into the process of creating the Centre right from the beginning" remarks AIDS Calgary Executive Director,
Simonne LeBlanc. The community will continue to be involved in the Centre through an advisory committee
LeBlanc went on to note that, "Our first priority was to ensure a continuity of services for the community. Then we needed to staff the new centre with
people already living in the Medicine Hat/Brooks area."
AIDS Calgary will apply our existing high standards and core values to all services provided in the region and support the development of new services.
The Medicine Hat Cares Centre currently provides needle exchange, crisis counseling and referral, HIV/AIDS and sexual health information, and safer sex supplies.
The Medicine Hat Cares Centre is located at 356 - 2 Street SE in Medicine Hat.
