CITY OF VANCOUVER PROCLAIMS MAY 17, 2011 AS THE INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST HOMOPHOBIA
WHERAS The City of Vancouver is committed to the belief that equal opportunity and treatment should exist for all people;
AND WHEREAS Every resident of Vancouver has the right to realize his or her potential regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, and live at all times in conditions of dignity, respect and peace;
AND WHEREAS The theme for International Day Against Homophobia 2011 is Queer Relationships;
AND WHEREAS The goal of International Day Against Homophobia 2011 is to encourage discussion and increase awareness about the diversity and beauty of relationships within queer communities;
AND WHEREAS The elimination of all forms of oppresion including homophobia, transphobia, and heterosexism is an ongoing process as we strive to create a society in which all individuals are valued and celebrated for their unique identities and contributions;
NOW THEREFORE, I Gregor Robertson, Mayor of the City of Vancouver, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM Monday May 17th 2011 as Ïnternational Day Against Homophobia in the City of Vancouver.
