The Farha Foundation's seventh annual HEROES NIGHT
7e soirée annuelle HOMMAGE AUX HÉROS de la Fondation Farha
[MONTRÉAL, QUÉBEC - April 8, 2008] - The story of AIDS in Québec is similar to other stories that unfolded around the world: at the beginning, hundreds, even thousands of people from all social classes were dying on a daily basis from a disease as yet unnamed. AIDS has gained ground and today touches millions of people around the world but after almost 30 years of fighting this disease it is still plagued with the stigma that follows it: ignorance, prejudice and suffering. Like history, some heroes come to the forefront, and shine their comforting energy in the face of adversity.
On April 7, the Farha Foundation saluted some of Québec's heroes who, by their concrete and necessary actions, are giving of their heart and soul in a tireless fight against this disease and the prejudices associated with it. In total, eight Quebecers were honoured by the Farha Foundation and the wider community for their exceptional work in the battle against HIV/AIDS. Nearly 350 guests gathered at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Montréal for HEROES NIGHT, to showcase their involvement and contribution to this unfinished battle.
HEROES NIGHT is a unique occasion for Quebecers to honour these individuals, fittingly named "soldiers of hope." The recipients received a sculptor created by Armand Vaillancourt, designed exclusively for the occasion, entitled Spirale.Axis mundi.
This year's heroes are:
Manon Boivert, Sylvain Duhamel, Roger Gagné, Marie-Marthe Laroche, Réjean Matte, Ken Monteith, René Raymond, Dr. Sylvie Trottier.
The evening was lead by MC Éric Prud'homme and filled with great entertainment provided by: The Gay Choir of Montreal, and singer Etienne Drapeau. Personalized sketches were created by Jean Tannous.

[MONTRÉAL, QUÉBEC - 8 avril 2008 ] - L'histoire du sida au Québec ressemble à celle que l'on raconte un peu partout à travers le monde. Au début, des centaines, voire des milliers de personnes de toutes les classes sociales mourraient quotidiennement d'une maladie qui était, jusque-là sans nom. Malheureusement, le sida a continué de gagner du terrain; il affecte aujourd'hui des millions de gens à travers le monde. Après 30 ans de lutte contre le sida, cette maladie demeure un véritable fléau qui comporte son lot d'effets secondaires : ignorance, préjugés et souffrance. Toutefois, comme dans toute histoire décrivant un adversaire aussi tenace, il en ressort quelques héros, desquels émane une énergie réconfortante, et ce, même devant l'adversité.
Hier, la Fondation Farha a salué quelques-uns de ces héros québécois qui, par leurs actions concrètes et nécessaires, se donnent cour et âme en combattant sans cesse cette maladie ainsi que les préjugés qui en découlent. En tout, huit Québécoises et Québécois ont été honorés pour leur apport exceptionnel dans la lutte contre le VIH/sida. Pour souligner leur implication et leur contribution, près de 350 invités se sont réunis à l'Hôtel Hyatt Regency de Montréal.
La soirée Hommage aux Héros s'avère une occasion unique au Québec pour mettre en lumière le travail de ces gens, de véritables « soldats de l'espoir ». Les récipiendaires y ont reçu l'ouvre « Spirale.Axis mundi » du sculpteur Armand Vaillancourt, créée exclusivement pour cette occasion.
