The Walk Did Us Good: Communities Across Canada Celebrate the Success of AIDS Walk for Life 2007
OTTAWA, September 24, 2007 - This year, approximately 20,000 walkers representing some 50 walk sites across Canada participated in the AIDS Walk for Life, showing their support and solidarity for people living with HIV/AIDS.
As Canada's most important HIV/AIDS awareness and fundraising event, the AIDS Walk for Life has now raised close to $28 million for community-based HIV/AIDS service organizations since 1996 and has attracted over half a million participants.
"Thanks to the generous support of walkers, sponsors, and volunteers, it has been another successful year for the Walk and we look forward to building on that momentum in the next year," says Monique Doolittle-Romas, Executive Director of the Canadian AIDS Society. Having raised approximately $2 million for local AIDS service organizations this year, the Walk continues to be a critical source of funding for programs and services directly benefiting people living with HIV/AIDS. With additional Walk proceeds still forthcoming, final numbers will be available after October 31. "We are very pleased with the amount of funds raised and hope the Walk will continue to grow, enabling local HIV/AIDS organizations across Canada to better serve people living with HIV/AIDS in their community."
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who came out to support this year's AIDS Walk for Life, including our generous national sponsors:

Platinum Sponsor: Santa Margherita
Gold Sponsor: Scotiabank
Silver Sponsors: Abbott Virology, Canpar, Gilead, Merck Frosst
Bronze Sponsors: Bristol-Myers Squibb, Pfizer

The Walk's success would not have been possible without the walkers, fundraisers, donors, volunteers and our national sponsors who generously contributed their time and effort to making the event a success. Your ongoing dedication and support is greatly appreciated.
