The Momentum Health Study
The Momentum Health Study is a new sexual health study for men in the Greater Vancouver Area.
This study will obtain accurate estimates of HIV prevalence, community infectivity and changes in HIV risk behaviour among
MSM in the region.
This study will be the first to use Respondent Driven Sampling to obtain a representative sample of MSM reflective of
the ethno-cultural diversity of Greater Vancouver and inclusive of MSM subgroups not usually sampled in previous studies. Respondent
Driven Sampling is a form of peer-recruited network sampling, where participants receive study vouchers to give to their friends
so they can participate too.
How is the study being implemented?
This study consists of two linked projects and will operate over five years, from 2011 to 2016.
We will conduct two cross-sectional surveys spaced over a five-year period that are designed to provide consistent and
representative estimates of HIV risk behaviour, HIV sero-status, antiretroviral therapy (ART) use and viral load among MSM in Greater
Vancouver.
Eligible participants in the first cross-sectional survey will also be invited to participate in a cohort study, with
follow-up every six months for a median of four years.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PARTCIPATE?
You are eligible to participate if you have received a study voucher either in hard copy or by email from someone
you know.
If you have received a study voucher and are interested in participating, call us at 604-558-2017 to make a study visit
appointment!
