The AIDS 2012 Washington, DC office scales up for the XIX International AIDS Conference

A team of 25 will be put in place with four key positions being recruited immediately

14 April 2011 - The Washington, DC office for the XIX International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2012) is now scaling up its activities and logistical preparations for the biennial conference which will convene more than 20,000 delegates from nearly 200 countries. AIDS 2012 will be held in Washington, DC from 22 to 27 July 2012 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

Key appointments will be made in the coming weeks including a Senior HIV and AIDS 2012 Stakeholder Advisor, a Public Affairs and Communications Manager, a Global Village Coordinator and a Youth Programme Coordinator. Two staff are already in place, the Head of the Local Secretariat, Tiffany Chester and her Assistant. The office will expand to over 25 people in the months leading up to the conference.

"It is key that we have the very best people in place to ensure this conference fulfils its potential. We want experts working for us who can reach out and engage with all stakeholders and interested parties to ensure the success of the conference in terms of its inclusivity, its diversity, its breaking science and its educational opportunities." explained Elly Katabira, Chair of AIDS 2012 and President of the IAS.

Under the leadership of the international conference secretariat based in Geneva, the Washington, DC office will liaise with local officials and interested stakeholders, conduct outreach in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area and in communities across the U.S., help coordinate conference volunteers, and work with local media.

All current vacancies can be found at www.aids2012.org.
